Limited Edition M.A.C Made Me Do It: I Bought Old Nail Polish off eBay

Let me set the scene: It's 2011, me and my 17-year-old friends are gathered around the lunch table talking about our purchases from the new M.A.C x Wonder Woman collection, when a nosy classmate joins in to brag that she bought one of everything.

Instead of impressing us like she hoped, we couldn't wrap around our heads around the idea that she spent $30 on the two nail polishes. I clearly remember being so shocked that I told my mom that night that she spent $15 on nail polish.

Flash forward four-years and I just bought those same nail polishes off eBay for $10 each and had my mom laughed right in my face. Oh, how times have changed.

Now, buying "old" nail polish isn't as bad as it sounds. So they've been sitting in their box untouched for a few years, the consistency is still even with no clumping or separation in sight. Most nail polish lasts 2 years after opening so I should be good, right? Probably not.

What originally put me off from them was the simplicity of the colors in combination of MAC's bad formula rep for their price. Obey me is a basic true red and Spirit of Truth is a navy blue--two colors I thought and still think I can find for $2 for Wet N Wild.

But it's the cute limited edition packaging that won me over and probably will make me strike again. I already have my eyes on the Archie's Girls Veronica polishes.

Dang it!

  • Have you ever purchased dated beauty products?
  • Did you purchase anything from this collection back in '11?
  • FUN FACT: Spitfire from this collection was the first lipstick I ever purchased from M.A.C. I still own it!

  1. I'm a sucker for packaging! I'm guilty of buying "older" beauty products that I couldn't buy at launch time.

  3. I bought them when they first were released and I still have them. I didn't know about the 2 year polish thing. I just use a bit of nail polish remover to get them working again. I have bucket full of polish. I should do some research.
