Hyderabad bore the brunt of heavy rainfall that lasted through the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. It started raining around 4 pm on 24 September and ended up inundating most of the roads and streets in the city. Telangana Municipal Administration minister KT Rama Rao claimed “We are witnessing the highest ever rainfall in September in over 100 plus years.”

Suresh, a 49-year-old had a lucky escape when he fell into a drain in Nagole area on the outskirts of the city and was rescued by the Disaster Response Force and Monsoon Emergency Team. He looked shaken and had swallowed a lot of water. (see above video)

The Nacharam police station was filled with water as a result of the heavy downpour. (video on top)

Both the Telangana DGP and the Hyderabad police commissioner appealed to the people to reach out to the police if they needed help in reaching their homes safely. “If possible, try to avoid road journey in the lower areas of the city,” tweeted Commissioner Anjani Kumar. 

Through the night, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal corporation control room got reports of 42 areas getting flooded. The rain is expected to stop on Wednesday morning but the roads are in bad shape after the battering.
