After the huge uproar over the tricolour on the wall of the village secretariat office in Tamedepalli in Amarapuram block of Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh being repainted with YSRCP colours, the government has decided to do a whitewash job. Literally so. The wall has now been painted white. Given the criticism the Jaganmohan Reddy government has had to face over this paint job, it would hope it can now buy peace with the white wall.

This means that the wall has changed colour from the original tricolour to to the YSRCP blue and white to complete white now.

But the government has not whitewashed Panchayat secretary R Prakash’s role in the case and hee has been suspended for taking the decision. That is a heads you win, tails I lose kind of situation because he was blindly following the government order from Amaravati that specified the precise colour details that every panchayat office should sport. For all you know, he would have been suspended if he had refused to obey the order as well.

But the question that has been raised is whether a wall is the appropriate place for the tricolour to be painted and whether it is a violation of the flag code.
